Hey, friends! Welcome back to the Ask A Christian Podcast. In this episode, we tackle a tough question about Joshua 6:21, where God commands the Israelites to destroy Jericho—men, women, children, and animals. Why would a loving God do that? Let’s dive in with honesty and faith. Watch the full episode here.

Understanding Joshua 6:21

A listener called the destruction of Jericho “senseless murder.” It’s a fair question that demands a real answer. I explained that Jericho’s people practiced violence and idolatry, including child sacrifice. God’s command was divine judgment to protect His people from ongoing threats (watch at 10:21). The Bible shows God giving Jericho into Israel’s hands (Joshua 6:2), ensuring evil wouldn’t spread.

God’s Justice and Mercy

How do we reconcile God’s love with His judgment? God is both just and merciful, giving centuries for repentance but acting when sin persists. Rahab, who trusted God, was spared (Joshua 6:25), pointing to salvation by faith (watch at 14:09). Dig deeper with my book, Ask A Christian, or study Bibles at Christianbook.com.
