Steph noted (~20:00), “It’s a deeply personal decision. My argument doesn’t change across hypotheticals, even for medical risk. I hope a woman lets the pregnancy reach viability, but I recognize this is an anguishing personal matter.” The result? Tension, not hatred; empathy, not vitriol. Medical and Political Nuance
The conversation tackled edge-cases—ectopic pregnancies, medical exceptions, and varying state laws. The biblical position isn’t a blunt instrument. As I said (~25:00), “Be pro-choice for your own body all day long—that’s not what we’re talking about. In our mind, it’s our conscience, having to say we support this life’s chance to live.” Medical exceptions, like saving the mother’s life, are often legally possible. Christians’ votes and activism must balance conviction with grace and truth, as Scripture demands.
The Endgame: Law, Gospel, and Living With Tension
The gospel calls Christians to walk in truth and love. The political realm is fraught, but life is sacred, even when it complicates our calculus in the Christian abortion debate. As I concluded (~30:00), “I’m not trying to force you to have a baby, but my conscience can’t allow me to just say ‘do whatever you want’ when it comes to ending a child’s life.
